We upgraded to the 20mg service recently, big mistake, I actually thought we would have a little better speed in the evening - daytime speed is no problem but who has time to sit and use the PC all day? - instead we manage about 1/4 of a mg most evenings - disgusting service. We had an engineer sent round after I said I would cancel, he told me there was nothing he could do from an engineers point of view and it is just network congestion. While I understand speeds will drop in peak periods, I would expect better than 1/80th of what I pay for!!

Esteban, mine is a full spectrum camera, but I only use it for infrared anyway, so the IR only one would have done really.

I personally use a Hoya R72 filter, just because I had one that fit and I used one before - I keep intending to experiment with other filters, but I've just not got around to it!

I'm enjoying your photos. I've been looking at the irdigi website and can't make up my mind whether to have a camera converted to the vis+IR spectrum or a conversion to IR only (which means you have to decide which filter to specify). Is your S5600 converted to be IR only or full spectrum? What is the IR filter; 720 nm or ?

Your help appreciated.

Thankyou

Interesting to see so many problems with Carphone Warehouse so I thought I'd add my experience to the list.

Start on a CPW contract about 6 years ago and I've upgraded about 8 or 9 times since then. However I did an upgrade to an SE P1i back in September and that's where the problems started. During my 28 day replacement warranty period, I noticed a problem with my phone on the day before I was due to go into hospital for major jaw surgery, so I was unable to get to the store. I sent my mum with my phone but they refused to accept it because they needed to see me in person (no idea why). When I came out of hospital I went to the store with my dad so that he could do the talking and we were refused a direct handset replacement because we were now outside the 28 day replacement warranty period! Argued against this with going into hospital and them refusing to accept the handset from someone else, but no use. Phone was eventually sent off for repair.

Came back 2 weeks later with the fault still evident on the screen (black line down one side of the screen). Idiot behind the counter said that their tills didn't allow them to describe faults in detail so they had to put "Screen not working". We demanded a replacement handset but this was refused again and we were also refused when we asked to speak to the manager. We were told we could take the handset to Leeds repair centre as they would be able to fix it on site and get the handset back much quicker. Dad refused and said they should send the handset via Special Delivery but CPW said this wasn't allowed! In the end we had to trail to the store in Leeds.

When we got there we had to queue for 45 minutes in the repair centre, only to find that their staff "weren't qualified" to repair the P1i. Dad went crazy at this point (remember - I couldn't speak after surgery) and again demanded to see the manager. This was refused. In the end we left the handset to be sent off for repair and stormed out of the store making people aware of our disgust.

3 weeks later I got a call from CPW Leeds telling me that my phone was available to collect from the store. Caught the train through to Leeds only to find that when I got to the store, my phone hadn't arrived at the store and would probably be there the following day!!!! >:(

At this point I was at wits end so I demanded an immediate disconnection on the grounds of failure to provide a service for which I was paying. CPW staff said they couldn't do this as it was an O2 contract and they told me to go to the O2 store next door. Did so only to find that CPW are responsible for all aspects of their O2 contracts apart from the physical lines. The guy also told me that they had loads of people from CPW storming in there every week, demanding disconnection and telling them that CPW had told them to do so. I apologised to the guy in the O2 store for being short with him and returned to CPW.

Eventually I got my handset back after 2 months (through the post), and fully repaired. Wrote countless complaints to them and the two stores concerned, sent them recorded but I've never had a reply.

I'm currently in battle with them again because I'm trying to disconnect as part of my early get-out insurance facility. Now they're claiming my phone is still at Leeds according to their system so they can't disconnect it! Anyway I stopped my Direct Debits this evening so let em try and nick money from me now. What will they do - disconnect me? LOL!

But another WORD OF WARNING!! If you try ringing CPW they have loads of 0870 numbers for their stores. If you ring these you go through to an automated switchboard and then eventually the phone will start ringing. Probably about 80% of these numbers DON'T EXIST but still BILL YOU for calling them at 45p a minute even if no-one answers the phone!!! I had word from the horse's mouth when a member of staff at a store let it slip that they don't even have a landline there, despite the system having a number and charging you for trying to ring it!!

I tried Notes On Politics, Theory and Photography and it looks fine (I'm using FF3, but I also use the NoScript add-on which blocks a ton of javascript by default until you approve it - and there seems to be a lot on that site).

As for the title, I've not changed a thing about it, but I think I quite like it!

Just a very minor afterthought. Did you try the title with the usual gap? The run-on is mildly making me think of either itchyness or something possibly greco-roman.

And on a completely different matter, could you try Jim Johnson's "Notes On Politics, Theory and Photography", please? I can't see what's wrong, but it is locking up my browser. I can't even get in to find his email address to tell him. It's his tracker, I think, not sure though.

Yeah, the top image is great. What I like about these kinds of images (especially the more obscure ones) is that it gets you to think a bit more. I really like this no rules approach.

That top image is very effective Dave; at first I thought it was a person the other side of a window in rain, taken on a slow shutter to produce streaking. Then I thought maybe it's a reflection captured off a highly-scratched steel surface. And finally (I think the correct interpretation), weed in a stream taken from the bank. At full size there's a ripple over the (presumably photographer's) face, which is a great obscurification detail (coincidental?). It also looks like a filtered image of a landscape, with the kind of motion in the sky van Gough is famous for. Good work.
